Item The importance of ISBN to the authors and publisher(Central Department of Library and Information Science, 2015-07) Giri, Binita; Shrestha, Bhim DhojThe research work entitled “The Importance of ISBN among Author and Publishers" is carried out with the main objectives of examining and analyzing about the ISBN Data program in Nepal. Most of the publisher is still unknown about ISBN. There is no compulsory provision for applying ISBN made by government. The objectives put to solve those problems are to find out the present standard of using ISBN number in book publication, to make aware of ISBN to the publisher & author in Nepal. In research period traditional and web literature are reviewed from different web sites. The research has focused Tribhuvan University Central Library for its study as TUCL is National Centre for ISBN n Nepal. The short questionnaire was distributed to publisher, author, librarian and others who are interested about it. The data collected through direct contact, email, interview with users. The collected data are tabulated and analyzed using Microsoft excel data sheet. The studies are limited within Kathmandu valley, TUCL, publishers, authors, and author publishers. Literature is reviewed. 30 questionnaire were distributed, among all only 23 questionnaires were returned. Among 23,10 respondents are authors, 8 are publishers and 5 publishers. The introducing the system led to simplification of ordering, stock control, accounting and export procedure in many branches of book industry. Our country Nepal is late for introducing the system because of reason like sad information policy of the government: delaying in decision making process, non alliance of the professional in the process of introducing the system Nepal. The researcher has been concluded if there is any sub agency to provide ISBN system may be more effective in Nepal. It is hard to come Kathmandu valley for the purpose of assigning ISBN. On the basis of this study most all of the respondents are familiar about ISBN and using it in their publication. The researcher has concluded that the national agency, TUCL should inform about the ISBN to the each and every corner of the country.
